A ground breaking ceremony celebrating major renovations and improvements for two parks in St.Catharines was held today.
With wintry air blowing, Mayor Walter Sendzik, St.Catharines MP Chris Bittle, Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey, and Regional Chair Alan Caslin kicked off construction projects enhancing two popular parks in the city.
Over $3.5 million in improvements will take place at Lakeside Park and West Park.
Construction will take place throughout the winter and Lakeside Park will reopen in summer 2017.
Beach access will be available during construction, however the playground will not be available.
Across the City, construction has also begun at West Park with over $1.1 million in improvements, including a new splash pad, accessible washrooms, outdoor fitness equipment, and sun shelter.
Construction is scheduled to continue through the winter and should be completed by fall 2017.
West Park’s sports fields, track and current washroom will be open during construction; the playground equipment will not be available.
