The Save West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Community Action Group is applauding the Ontario PC government for its announcement to build a new hospital.
Earlier today, Premier Doug Ford promised to rebuild the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby following public outcry last month over plans to relocate services like surgeries for up to two years while renovations took place.
Ford announced a $500,000 planning grant to begin the process of rebuilding the hospital and also an immediate infusion of $8.5 million for needed repairs.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the repairs will allow services to continue at the hospital without the need to relocate them.
She says if any services are moved out of the hospital it will be temporary and they will return to Grimsby.

Tony Joosse, Community Co-Chair of the Save West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Community Action Group says they are overwhelmed that Premier Ford and Minister Elliott have listened to the community and responded saying the announcement starts the process that will not only save WLMH but put in place what is necessary to rebuild the hospital.
He says this could not have occurred without the tireless advocacy of local MPP Sam Oosterhoff, who had the Premier visit the community a month ago and delivered more than 18,000 petitions to the legislature.
Cindy Toth, Community Co-Chair says to echo Premier Ford this morning, no community is as passionate about their hospital than West Niagara.
Toth will join CKTB at 4:15pm.
She says the SaveWLMH Community Action will continue to work tirelessly with the Provincial government and Hamilton Health Sciences to fulfill Premier Ford’s desire to have shovels in the ground ASAP.
