A group of concerned citizens is trying to preserve Welland's downtown Central Fire Station.
The group called the Central Station Education Initiative appeared at Welland council's general committee meeting to present a plan to transform the old hall into a time capsule of the 1920s.
Although the building's structure is protected by a heritage destination, the group worries the items inside the hall could be lost forever if the station is sold.
Originally, the idea was to turn the hall into a museum but bringing everything up to code would have been too expensive for the group to manage.
Instead they want to set aside some space for a historic display while renting out the rest of the hall.
Council will be revisiting the issue next week.
