GTHA Mayors and Chairs are renewing the call for emergency funding from the provincial and federal governments.
In a release, the group says while they are committed to a successful restart of the economy they continue to face unprecedented costs responding to the pandemic.
The release was sent out ahead of talks between the two upper levels of government set for this week to discuss the cash crunch municipalities are facing.
The mayors note a deal is needed to avoid destructive cuts to frontline services or unmanageable property tax increases.
The politicians note while bigger cities have had their voices heard on this issue, it is a crisis faced by every city and town in Ontario.
Niagara's 12 municipalities along with regional government have sent a joint request to Ottawa and Queen's Park asking for assistance in light of falling revenues and increasing expenditures in the fight against COVID-19.
