Halton police say all sex assaults deemed unfounded last year were properly and thoroughly investigated.
The force conducted its review of the cases after a recent Globe and Mail report found Halton police had dismissed 30 percent of sex assault claims over a five year period as unfounded.
Halton officials say of the 57 cases it reviewed, 15 did not occur or could not have occured as reported, and in another 42 cases officers deteremined after an investigtion a criminal offence wasn't not committed and those cases did not have the required elements to meet the definition of sexual assault.
However the force will be changing the way officers investigate sexual assault reports and each incident will be subject to a review.
