City of Hamilton councillors ready to do battle over escalating levies being charged by local conservation authorities
After the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority won a court battle with the city over a levy hike, the Grand River Conservation Authority says its hiking the amount it bills the city, as well.
Council learning yesterday the amount it funds the Grand River Authority is increasing by nearly 400 percent to over a million dollars.
Two years ago the NPCA also increased the amount Hamilton taxpayers fund it, to over a million.
Conservation Authorities are allowed to set their own budgets and determine how much funding they require from local municipalities in their watersheds.
