A busy start to the week for Hamilton firefighters as the rubble is cooling on two separate house fires in the same area last night.
The first call to 104 Beach Road came around 7:20p.m where a well involved fire blazed on the second floor.
Crews were able to assist one person out of the building on the first floor. Firefighters then found a woman on the second floor, removed her and started CPR.
She died later in hospital making her the first fire fatality of the year. The fire Marshall is investigating what officials are calling "suspicious circumstances."
Just eleven minutes later, crews were called to 21 Fullerton Avenue also in ward 3 for a kitchen fire.
Heavy smoke and flames greeted the rescue efforts. Fortunately everyone was able to escape the blaze before the fire became deadly. The cause and damage of the Beach road fire is under investigation.
Unattended cooking is getting the blame in the Fullerton fire. Damage at the Fullerton fire is estimated at $75,000.
Hamilton fire is reminding everyone that pay attention while cooking as these fires are completely preventable.
