A Hamilton man is planning a massive run to honour his mother and raise money for the Rankin Cancer Run.
Jonathan Krawec will be running 100 miles in 24 hours at the end of August in memory of his mom Colleen, a local teacher who took part in the annual run.
"My mom and sister both had cancer, and so from there the Rankin Cancer Run became just a family event for us and the running just kind of grew from there." Krawec says.
"You'd never hear her complain, she never wanted to be babied or taken care of," Krawec reflects on his mom's incredible spirit. "Right up until the end she was looking after the family and organizing family events and in her wheelchair buzzing around to get family dinners made. It was always just, you know, you deal with it and you move on and you tackle the things that are more important than sitting around moping. So hopefully I can pull some of that spirit out in the run in the worst parts when you want to quit and give up."
The run will be taking place in Hamilton's Corktown Park on August 29th.
This year's annual Rankin Cancer Run was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
