A two year legal saga is over for a Hamilton man charged in connection with the drowning death of a young boy in St. Lucia.
Sahab Jamshidi was given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay a $36,000 fine which goes to the family of four year old TJ Elibox.
Jamshidi was vacationing on the island in 2015 when he went kitesurfing, what happened after that is up for debate.
The accused maintained he spotted the boy struggling in the water and tried to save him.
But the boy's family says Jamshidi took the boy kitesurfing without their permission and dropped him.
In an unexpected move, Jamshidi pleaded guilty last month to gross negligence causing death.
His lawyers have not said if the plea was part of a deal with prosecutors.
