Hamilton police say officers found an allegedly stolen veterans' memorial plaque in the back seat of a car they pulled over on Monday.
Investigators say they pulled the vehicle over for a routine traffic stop and realized there was a warrant out for the driver's arrest because he allegedly failed to appear in court.
They say that while they were searching the man's vehicle, they saw a large bronze plaque and a backpack with ``break-and-enter tools'' in plain view in the back seat.
Police say the plaque depicted the Dieppe Veterans Memorial Park in Hamilton and had a caption describing the single bloodiest day for the Canadian military during the Second World War.
Investigators say they went to the park and discovered that the plaque was missing.
Police say the value of the plaque is estimated at $30,000.
