Niagara Falls Council agreeing tonight to up the pay of its crossing guards in the hopes the move will attract more people to the job.
Right now the city is short nine guards.
Staff recommended increasing the current hourly wage from $15.40 an hour to $17.34 and council passed that motion.
They've also asked staff to review all crossing locations to determine if they are meeting the needs of the community.
Council was also asked to support a $110,000 dollar expenditure to replace one of the compressors at the Gale Centre.
The company responsible for refrigeration at the arena says one of the two compressors necessary to maintain the ice at all four pads is on it's last legs.
Council approved that motion without debate.
