The fate of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is front and centre at Queen's Park today.
Niagara Centre NDP MPP Jeff Burch stood at the Legislature this morning asking the Health Minister to comment on the future of the hospital in Grimsby following news that Hamilton Health Sciences wanted to move some services out of the hospital while a 2-year renovation takes place.
The Chief of Staff resigned over the issue saying it's a fatal blow to WLMH.
Health Minster Christine Elliott responded to Burch's concerns saying she knows it's been a subject of turmoil for local residents.
She says "hospital services will continue" at WLMH and says they are working with the LHIN, Hamilton Health and WLMH staff to ensure that happens.
While she didn't go into details on what "services will continue means", it seems to be an optimistic comment from Elliott.
Burch responded by saying we knew some services will continue, but what about obstetrics and surgery programs?
He is asking the government to commit to keeping the hospital open.
Residents have started a petition, and another community meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday Oct 30) night at Mountainview Christian Reformed Church from 7-9:30pm.
