Federal Health Minister Mark Holland is meeting with his provincial and territorial counterparts in Charlottetown today for the first health ministers' summit since he took the job.
Holland says the meetings will be focused on attracting new workers to the health-care field and retaining the doctors, nurses and technicians Canada already has to alleviate the health-worker shortage.
He says the health ministers need to look at foreign credentials and pan-Canadian licences as two options.
The ministers will also talk about improving the integration of health data from one province to the next, which is a condition of the health accord the prime minister offered premiers in February.
The meeting in Prince Edward Island comes on the heels of British Columbia signing the first bilateral funding agreement with Ottawa as part of that accord.
All provinces and territories have agreed to the health accord in principle, except for Quebec.
The health ministers are expected to hold a press conference at the end of their two days of meetings.
