Heddle Shipyards in St. Catharines is growing its Vessel Life Extension division with new government funding.
Heddle is investing $107M to tackle projects at the company’s Port Weller Dry Docks, while the Ontario government is investing $3.4M through the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness stream of its Regional Development Program.
The expansion will create 30 new jobs in the region.
“We are extremely grateful for the support that Minister Fedeli and the Government of Ontario continue to have for the shipbuilding and ship repair industry in our province,” said Ted Kirkpatrick, Director of Business Development and Government Relations at Heddle Shipyards. “Investments through programs like AMIC will allow Ontario to once again be a frontrunner in the shipbuilding industry in Canada and support hundreds of high-paying skilled trade jobs in our communities over the coming decade.”
"The Port Weller Dry Docks have a long and rich history of building and repairing ships in St. Catharines. Thanks to this key provincial investment to Heddle Shipyards through the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness stream of its Regional Development Program, this legacy of manufacturing excellence at Port Weller will continue into the future.
