Beach weather is finally here, but not all of Niagara's beaches are safe for swimming.
The Region's latest beach water testing results show five beaches are unsafe.
Waverly Beach in Fort Erie, Nelles Beach in Grimsby, Charles Daly Park East in Lincoln, Humberstone Centennial Park in Port Colborne and Lakeside Beach in St. Catharines.
Anthony Habjan, the manager of environmental health for Niagara Region, tells CKTB some of the beaches can't be tested because of high water levels.
He says they are closed because the water is so high it's going over the shores and what's on the surface is getting pulled back into the water leading to contamination.
Beaches are posted unsafe or closed when water tests show unacceptable levels of e. coli bacteria.
The beach might also be unsafe because of floating debris, oil, excessive weed growth, bad odours and general turbidity.
Swimming in these waters could cause infections of the ear, eye, nose, throat and skin as well as cause diarrhea if the water is ingested.
