The IceDogs fired 44 shots at the Mississauga Steelheads but could manage only one goal falling 4-1 to the visitors. Outshot 13-10 in the first, the Dogs held advantages of 19-8 and 15-10 in the final two periods.
The Steelheads scored a goal a period and seemed to be on their way to a shut-out win before Johnny Corneil hits for his 31st on the power-play in the last minute. Mississauga followed with an empty netter six seconds later.
The game featured speed from both teams and physical play throughout. The Steelheads managed to score on a deflection off a players' body, a rebound converted in close and perfect shot on a left wing rush.
The Dogs still trail Ottawa by two points for 6th in the East and lead Sudbury by one and North Bay by two, pending Friday night's game between the Wolves and the Battalion.
The IceDogs will now need to re-group and face the Sudbury Wolves Saturday night. The pre-game on 610 CKTB begins at 6:30.
