The cause of an explosion that levelled a house yesterday afternoon in Hamilton remains under investigation.
Fire crews were called to the home around 2:00 after the blast rocked a residential neighbourhood on Gibson Avenue.
Fire Chief Claudio Mostacci says fortunately the damage was not widespread and there appeared to be no damage to adjacent homes
The elderly resident of the home, who is blind and uses a service dog, was trapped in the rubble, but was able to communicate with rescuers.
It took an hour for crews to pull him from the debris.
He was taken to hospital.
His condition is unknown at this time.
Neighbours found the dog, who they appeared traumatized and he was taken to a local vet for treatment.
