Education Minister Lisa Thompson says no decision has been made on removing caps on class sizes in primary grades to help tackle a multi-billion-dollar deficit.
Thompson sparked concerns about the cap when she announced yesterday that she's launching consultations on class sizes and teacher-hiring practices.
But she says in a tweet today that she looks forward to the education sector sharing its perspectives on ways to ensure spending in the classroom is making the biggest impact.
The head of the union representing public elementary school teachers says he's been told public education will be affected by government efforts to balance the budget.
