With the deep freeze back, plumbers across the region reporting an increased number of calls from homeowners battling frozen pipes.
To help out, local municipalities are offering some helpful tips.
To avoid frozen water pipes, open kitchen, bathroom and laundry cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.
Shut off all outdoor faucets.
Insulate pipes prone to freezing and if necessary leave a tap open enough for a pencil thin stream of water so there is some movement of water in those pipes.
And Port Colborne Fire says if your pipes freeze, don't try to unthaw them using an open flame, use a blow dryer instead.
