If IceDogs fans wondered how the team would address the graduations of Ryan Mantha and Aaron Haydon, the first answer is Zach Shankar. GM Joey Burke announced the acquisition of Shankar from North Bay for a 5th round pick in 2019.
Zach not only brings a veteran presence to a young Niagara D-core but adds toughness on the backend. The six foot, 198 pound rearguard suited up for 67 games last year with North Bay. He counted 28 points, with four of those being goals, and registered 120 minutes in penalties.
Heading into next week's start of training camp, the IceDogs now have only one overage spot open on their OHL roster.
