The IceDogs will return home Tuesday night for Game 3 in their best of seven series with Peterborough trailing the Petes 2-0 after a 6-3 loss Saturday night. The rookie laden IceDogs battled the top ranked Petes throughout Game 2, holding a 2-1 lead late into the second period.
After giving up an early goal, the Dogs power-play would strike twice in the first. Ryan Mantha's first of the playoffs tied the game at 8:36, with assists going to Danial Singer and Ondrej Machala. Johnny Corneil's man advantage marker came at 16:25 on the great top shelf shot, with Ryan Mantha and Ben Jones getting the helpers.
The IceDogs would be victimized by penalty calls with the Petes tying the game on a power-play and adding a second goal less than a minute later.
In the final period, the turning point would be a 5 on 3, full two minute IceDogs power-play. Unable to score, Peterborough would extend the lead less than 30 seconds after the penalty kill and add another power-play score with 5:53 to play. Down three, coach David Bell would empty the net leading to Kirill Maksimov's second of the playoffs on a scramble, with assists going to Justin MacPherson and Oliver Castleman. A Petes empty netter with less than five seconds to play ended the evening's scoring.
For the game, the IceDogs outshot Peterborough 44-41.
The series now returns to St Catharines for games three and four. Tuesday night, 610 CKTB will have all the action with the pre-game underway at 6:30.
