The IceDogs were outshot 52-23 in Barrie, falling 6-2 to the Colts Saturday night. Niagara is now a point back of Barrie for first in the Central but still hold a game in hand.
Stephen Dhillon stopped 16 first period shots but the Colts found the back of the net twice.
After Barrie made it 3-0 in the first minute of the second on the power-play, the IceDogs killed off almost 10 straight minutes of Colts advantages. John Schaefer’s first of the year at 10:45 was a backhand effort on a feed from Kirill Maksimov. Maksimov picked up a second assist at 12:45 on Akil Thomas’ 12th, Liam Ham also registered an assist. Down by one, Billy Burke’s team was victimized on a bad bounce marker with less than 5 seconds left to make it 4-2 after two. Dhillon again made 19 saves in the middle period.
Two more Barrie goals in the third concluded the night’s scoring.
