Kirill Maksimov and Akil Thomas scored in the shootout as the IceDogs picked up a big two points edging Hamilton 3-2. The win moves the Dogs into sole possession of 8th place in the OHL East.
The "never give up", "never do anything the easy way" IceDogs were down 2-0 after one. Dave Bell's team surrendered 15 of the 26 first period shots to the visiting Bulldogs.
In period two, Pavel Demin scored his 3rd, banking a puck in off a Hamilton defender at 4:02. The game was tied on a three second IceDogs power-play. Akil Thomas and Ben Jones set up Ryan Mantha. Mantha's 17th at 8:59 was a left point rocket of a shot, for the OHL's leader in shots on goal. Shots again favoured the visitors 18-13.
The third featured both goalies on display, with Stephen Dhillon making several spectacular stops. In regulation, Hamilton held the edge in shots 51-34. The five minute overtime solved nothing with the netminders again taking centre stage. Johnny Corneil came closest to ending it with a shot off the crossbar.
In the shootout, Dhillon tuned back both Hamilton shooters while both Thomas and Maksimov found the back of the net.
The game of the weekend and maybe of the year takes place Sunday afternoon as the North Bay Battalion come to town. 610 CKTB will begin the broadcast with the pre-game show at 1:30.
