Akil Thomas scored the only goal in the shootout as the IceDogs came back from two down to edge Hamilton 3-2. Stephen Dhillon made two great saves in overtime to get the game past 65 minutes as the Dogs improved their record to 5 and 2.
Grimsby's own Brandon Saigeon scored goals early in the first and the second before the IceDogs mounted their comeback. Ben Jones redirected an Elijah Roberts point shot for a power-play goal at 9:07, Akil Thomas drew the second assist. Drew Hunter jumped into the rush on a delayed penalty call and fired home his first of the year at 16:48 of the middle period. Rookies Philip Tomasino and Andrew Bruder notched assists.
The IceDogs were out-shot 10-4 in the first, with a number of attempts being blocked. Turing the tables, Billy Burke's team had a 15-8 edge in period two before again allowing Hamilton a 10-4 third period advantage, in a scoreless twenty minutes. The Bulldogs had three of the five overtime shots with Stephen Dhillon making two outstanding saves in close.
In the shootout, Dhillon denied at three Hamilton shooters with Akil Thomas' goal counting as the game winner.
