The IceDogs gave it all they had but still came up a goal short losing 4-3 in overtime to Peterborough. The Dogs now trail the Petes 3-0 in the best of seven Eastern quarterfinal.
The two teams traded power-play goals in the opening period with Kirill Maksimov tying the game at 17:37. His third of the post season was a deflection of a Ryan Mantha point shot. Johnny Corneil added a second assist a first period where the IceDogs held a 12-11 shots advantage.
Ondrej Machala gave the home side the lead at 3:07 of the second banging in a rebound with linemates Kyle Langdon and Danial Singer picking up assists. Ryan Mantha's second of the playoffs came 40 seconds later on an unassisted effort. The Petes countered with two goals of their own, the second coming with 27 seconds left in the middle stanza. The Petes counted 15 of the 27 shots in period two.
The third belonged to the goaltenders with Stephen Dhillon and Dylan Wells doing their part to send the game to overtime. In the extra frame, both teams had chances to end it with Dhillon robbing the Petes on a clear cut breakaway. The winning goal came with 4:01 left in the first OT on loose puck in front of the Dogs' net.
Willie Lockhead made his return to the IceDogs lineup, logging a ton of minutes on the back end and adding a physical component that was appreciated by the home crowd of just under 5,000 in attendance.
