The IceDogs picked up two important points in the Eastern Conference playoff race with a big 4-3 road win in Hamilton. Stephen Dhillon made 39 saves to get the win, many of the spectacular variety.
Oliver Castleman scored his 13th just 50 seconds into the game. Castleman beat two Hamilton defenders to a shoot-in and tucked it in short side. Two Hamilton power-play goals gave the Bulldogs the lead until late in the first. Justin Brack made a great pass from behind the net and Ryan Mantha fired home his 12th even the game after one.
In the second, Akil Thomas tied for the rookie lead in goals, scoring his 19th of the year 6 minutes in, making it 3-2. Hamilton would tie things up just over three minutes later. The game winner was a team effort with Ben Jones and Johnny Corneil picking up assists on Danial Singer’s 10th goal of the year.
In the third, the Dogs would stymie Hamilton’s offence, surrendering only 9 shots. That despite the fact that the Bulldogs would be given the only two power-plays in the final period.
Next up, a Tuesday night trip to Kitchener for a 7 o’clock start. 610 CKTB will have all the action beginning with the pre-game at 6:30.
