Ondrej Machala scored a goal an added two assists as the IceDogs, on short rest, beat a rested Sudbury Wolves Squad 5-4. With the win, the Dogs end the weekend up north where they began, in 7th place of the OHL's Eastern Conference.
A 24 shot first period would net the IceDogs a 1-0 lead on Aaron Haydon's power-play 7th of the year. Period two saw an early push back from the Wolves before Justin Brack and Machala would score in a 36 second span. A Sudbury goalie change made no difference as Kirill Maksimov hit for his 12th, stepping around the Wolves replacement netminder. The home side would strike to make it 4-1 but Oliver Castelman, on a breakaway, struck for his 16th to make reclaim the our goal lead 39 seconds later. A late Wolves goal ended the second with the IceDogs up 5-2.
In the third, the IceDogs would bend but not break, giving up 16 of the final period's 24 shots. Sudbury made it a one goal game but Stephen Dhillon in goal would step up with help from the three overagers, Mantha, Haydon and Brack. For the game, the IceDogs out-shot the Wolves 43-39.
The IceDogs final road trip of the year takes the team East for a Thursday stop in Kingston and a Sunday meeting with the 67's in Ottawa. 610 CKTB will be there, providing all the play-by-play action.
