Sometimes the game needs to be 61 minutes long. The IceDogs staged another third period comeback, only to come a goal short, falling 4-3 to the CHL's top ranked Soo Greyhounds.
Stephen Dhillon was outstanding, making 32 saves, keeping the visitors off the scoresheet until 4:21 left in the opening period.
Early in the second, a penalty shot goal extended the advantage to two, with the Soo power-play striking late to make it 3-0 at the break. Outshot 14-9, Dhillon kept the game within reach making a number of tough stops.
Another man advantage goal made it 4-0, 61 seconds into period three. Then at 4:57, Oliver Castelman and Kirill Maksimov assisted on Willie Lochead's 3rd of the year. With 5:34 left, number 28 from Sam Miletic with assists from Elijah Roberts and Johnny Corneil made it 4-2. In the final minute, with Dhillon on the bench in favour of six skaters, Maksimov netted his 28th from Ben Jones and Akil Thomas. The comeback continued with the IceDogs buzzing for the tying goal but the clock simply ran out. Thirteen third period Niagara shots made the count read, 36-32 for the contest.
