Stephen Dhillon made 46 saves and Elijah Roberts scored the hat-trick as the IceDogs doubled Barrie 6-3, taking over the lead in the OHL’s Central Division. Roberts also added an assist, while Sam Miletic scored two for the second straight game plus counted an assist.
Miletic’s 18th at 12:37 of the first was sandwiched between a pair of Barrie goals in a period where Dhillon kicked out 17.
At the mid-way mark of the second, the Colts held a 32-6 shots edge and continued to hold a 2-1 advantage. That’s when the offence went to work. Four goals in a span of 6:05 would prove to be the difference. Bradey Johnson’s 8th tied the game at 11:04. The IceDogs first lead came 66 seconds after as Roberts scored from the point. Miletic’s second of the night at 15:25 with Roberts closing out the barrage at 17:09. Second period shots were even at 14.
In the third, a Barrie power-play goal brought the visitors closer before Roberts hit the empty net with 30 seconds left. Dhillon again was outstanding making 15 saves.
With the 23rd win of the season, the IceDogs have matched their total from a year ago. First year Head Coach Billy Burke also sports the best record among the 7 new OHL coaches hired in the offseason.
