Billy Burke's IceDogs bounced back from a tough Thursday home loss to record a 5-4 overtime win in Oshawa. Matt Philip scored his first of the year at 3:26 of extra time to give the Dogs the two points.
The visitors from St Catharines negated an early Oshawa goal to take a 2-1 lead. Dan Singer buried his own rebound on the power-play at 10:24 with Ondrej Machala and Elijah Roberts adding assists. Ian Martin's first in the OHL was pro caliber snap shot at 11:24, with the helper going to fellow rookie Philip Tomasino. The Generals would tie it late in an opening period where the Dogs recorded 13 of the 21 shots on goal.
After killing three early second period penalties, Ben Jones sets an IceDogs record with two goals in 20 seconds. Both were power-play markers and both were assisted by Dan Singer and Akil Thomas. Once again, a pair of goals from the home team, the second in the last minute made it 4-all. Oshawa held the shots edge 12-6.
Period three was played at a cautious pace with the IceDogs firing 12 the way of the Oshawa goal, as opposed to 6 by the Generals.
In overtime, Matt Philip's heroics were preceded by a game saving Stephen Dhillon breakaway save. Philip converted his own rebound on a breakaway after a stumble by an Oshawa defender.
The IceDogs went 3 for 4 on the power-play, while the penalty-kill held the Generals to an 0-5 night. Shots favoured the Dogs 34-26.
