Niagara Regional Police are investigating reports of people posing as Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority members.
Residents have been complaining of phone calls, emails, and home visits from people claiming to represent the NPCA over the last few months.
Conservation officials say any documents they release would come through the NPCA website, social media channels, or from an email address ending in @npca.ca
They also note NPCA staffers must carry proper identification.
Members of the public are encouraged to ask for credentials when in doubt.
Anyone with information about the incidents is encouraged to contact the NPCA directly.
