Nobody was injured after an impaired driver struck two homes and ruptured a gas line in St. Catharines.
Police responded to the area of St. George Street and Facer Street shortly before midnight yesterday.
Officers on the scene discovered a severely damaged Ford Fusion and an investigation determined the car reversed out of a driveway, striking the first home and rupturing a natural gas line.
The car then plowed forward across the street hitting the second home.
63-year-old Taralee J. Lawson of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
A fire caused by the broken gas line was extinguished and multiple homes nearby had to be evacuated as a precaution.
The damage to the first house is estimated at $50,000.
Lawson will appear in court later this month.
