We are getting word of the extent of the injuries suffered by IndyCar driver and Guelph native Robert Wickens when he crashed into a fence at Pocono Raceway last month.
His family says he suffered a thoracic spinal fracture, a fractured neck, tibia and fibula fractures to both legs and a fractured right forearm.
Wednesday, Wickens was named the IndyCar Rookie of the Year.
He is the highest-scoring rookie driver this season, sitting seventh overall.
His family says he will soon be moved to a rehab facility to begin recovering from the spinal chord injury.
