Flying coffee and insults of "fake news" were hurled at a local reporter on his way to work Monday.

Flying coffee and insults of "fake news" were hurled at a local reporter on his way to work Monday.

St. Catharines Standard reporter Grant LaFleche says someone drove by him on William Street Monday and yelled "you are fake news"  then hurled a cup of coffee out the window of the vehicle at him.

Speaking to CKTB's Larry Fedoruk, LaFleche says while he wasn't harmed by the incident, it's indicative of a greater and growing problem which is attacking journalists for doing their jobs.

LaFleche didn't report the incident to police as he was unable to get a licence plate for the vehicle involved.
