The Sabres will mark the 10 year anniversary of the first Winter Classic in the Big Apple.
The NHL announcing Buffalo and the Rangers will meet January 1st in Citi Field, which is home to the Mets.
Because the Rangers are contracted to play all home games at Madison Square Garden the outdoor game will be on the schedule as a home game for the Sabres.
That means the Sabres will play 40 games on home ice rather than 41.
