It's the oldest of the invasive species in Lake Erie, but this is probably the first time most of us are hearing about it.
New research from scientists with the Ministry of Natural ResourcesĀ is focusingĀ on jelly fish that are apparently thriving along the shoreline.
Biologists have also found the tiny, penny sized creatures in the Welland Canal, Port Dover and Long Point and they say once they arrive there is no getting rid of them.
Fortunately, while they do have stinging cells like their larger ocean floating cousins, it's not beleived the stingers can penetrate human skin.
It's not known how they got here, some scientists think they arrived via China while others say they hitchhiked in imported plants used in botanical gardens from the Amazon River.
