Officials for three popular dictionaries have released their picks for 'Word of the Year.'
Merriam-Webster has named 'justice' as their Word of the Year, saying online traffic for 'justice' increase 74% over last year. In a release, Merriam-Webster representatives say 'justice' was on the public's mind as we were enraptured with stories such as the Mueller investigation and the Kavanaugh confirmation.
Oxford Dictionaries has named 'toxic' as their choice. Officials say people are using the word 'toxic' to describe everything from situations, to cultures, to relationships. The #MeToo movement is also credited in helping the phrase 'toxic masculinity' gain more traction.
And finally, Dictionary.com has dubbed 'misinformation' as their Word of the Year. In their justification, Dictionary.com notes a Washington Post count of misleading or false claims made by President Donald Trump, Gwyneth Paltrow's company GOOP paying $145,000 in a settlement over misleading medical claims, and Mark Zuckerberg testifying before Congress in April about the spread of misinformation on Facebook.
