The C-E-O of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario says the firing of any nurse for reasons linked to patient safety should be disclosed to future employers.
Doris Grinspun made the comments following a disciplinary hearing that revoked Elizabeth Wettlaufer's certification and found her guilty of 14 counts of professional misconduct.
Wettlaufer is currently serving a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years after pleading guilty to murdering eight seniors in her care.
The College of Nurses of Ontario knew Wettlaufer was fired from a nursing home in Woodstock for a medication error in 2014, but she continued to work until she resigned as a nurse in 2016.
