Police are calling on students to attend sanctioned events during homecoming celebrations at Queen's University that begin today and run through the weekend.
Kingston police say mass gatherings present safety concerns and warn that injuries may become more serious if emergency services are impeded by blocked roadways.
They say homecoming will be treated like any other day by law enforcement and officers will be issuing fines for blocking roads and sidewalks, carrying open liquor, public intoxication and underage drinking.
Last year, police made 19 arrests and issued 166 tickets or charges during Queen's University homecoming events.
