The head of Canada's largest union is marking Labour Day with a call to organized workers everywhere to think about what more they can do to ensure equality for Canadians.
In Toronto, Jerry Dias (DYE'-az) of the 300-thousand-member Unifor says workers should think about solidarity and how to steer politics in the country to a more inclusive society.
He also took a shot at the new Ontario Progressive Conservative government headed by Doug Ford.
He chided Ford for promoting his ``buck-a-beer'' initiative instead of bettering the lives of working people.
Ford issued his own Labour Day statement, repeating his slogan that ``Ontario is open for business.''
NDP leader Andrea Horvath issued a statement saying New Democrats are proud to join in Labour Day celebrations "to celebrate how far we’ve come, and plan the gains still to be made.”
Meantime, the Merritton Lions Club will host its 72nd annual Labour Day Parade today
