If your teen attends a high school in Niagara and uses the Late Activity Bus to get home, you will probably be getting a call soon.
The District School Board of Niagara and Niagara Catholic District School Board Secondary School Late Activity Buses are cancelled this evening.
High schools in Niagara have a second tier of buses that depart the school between 4:30pm to 5:30pm depending on the school to support after school activities.
These buses are cancelled.
Regular elementary and secondary transportation will not be affected.
School board officials say the mild temperatures were too good to be true, and they are preparing for the inclement weather forecast.
Niagara is under a Special Weather Statement as a cold air mass moves over the region, turning the rain we are getting into snow.
Environment Canada's Geoff Coulson tells CKTB that will happen between 1 and 3 p.m.
During that time period some areas may experience freezing rain.
Coulson says that snow will continue into the evening.
Most of the region will get around 5-centimetres, but areas in south Niagara could get close to 10cm.
Couslon says the drive home will be impacted by the snow, blowing snow, winds around 50km/hr and icy conditions.
The snowy system will move out of the region late tonight, and while no snow is in the weekend forecast it will be very cold.
The high over the weekend is around -10.
