A 52 year old Niagara Regional Police officer is listed in critical condition after being shot by a fellow officer.
It happened just after 12 o'clock Thursday afternoon in Pelham.
The NRP's Reconstruction Unit was at the intersection of Roland Road near Sulphur Springs Drive doing a follow-up investigation into a fiery crash back on November 12th.
That's when an "altercation" broke out between two officers and a gun shot was fired and struck a 44 year old officer.
The SIU is investigating the case but won't confirm whether the other officer has been arrested or charged.
The officer who was shot was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries and as of Thursday evening was listed in critical condition at Hamilton General Hospital.
The SIU has assigned eight investigators and three forensic investigators to the case. Click here if you would like to contact the SIU.
The St.Catharines Standard is identifying the officers involved as Constable Nathan Parker and Det. Sgt. Shane Donovan of the traffic collision reconstruction unit.
The area remains closed off to traffic.
