The folks at the Lincoln County Humane Society are saying 'so long' to a 14 foot python captured in Thorold.
The 80 pound reptile was temporarily being housed at LCHS facilities after being found slithering around an industrial area last week.
Over the weekend, the snake was moved to the Indian River Reptile Zoo outside of Peterborough.
LCHS Executive Director Kevin Strooband says they had to search near and far to find a suitable home as several other large snakes are also hunting for new digs in Ontario.
"A lot of these organizations have them, and they just can't find homes. Locally, we were expecting it might be here for a year while we sought a home. So, they were helpful, they took it, it's now the biggest snake that they will have."
The snake's original owner hasn't come forward, but the investigation continues.
"So I think people leave well enough alone, say, 'Darn I lost my snake,' but who knows what else they have. That's why we're still looking for the owner. We want to have that conversation. And there's a reason these bylaws are in place, it's to keep the residents safe. That snake, if someone had just stumbled across it, they could have been bitten."
