A new poll suggests more than half of Canadians think lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians is not possible.
The Leger poll surveyed more than 1,500 people online between Oct. 13 and Oct. 15, about a week after war broke out following attacks by Hamas militants on Israeli civilians.
The results show 51 per cent of Canadians don't think lasting peace is possible between the two sides, while only 19 per cent said a lasting peace can be achieved.
About two-thirds of Canadians say they're somewhat or very closely watching the situation as it unfolds.
Four in 10 people said Canada is giving the right amount of support to Israel, and seven in 10 said they backed Canada's decision to help airlift Canadians out of Israel.
Leger weighted the responses based on statistical demographics but the poll cannot be given a margin of error because online polls are not considered true representative samples.
