The Liberal party has released audio they claim shows Doug Ford was involved in signing people up for 'bogus memberships.'
Officials with the Liberal Party claim the recording is of Ford speaking to people at a Tim Hortons with Etobicoke Centre candidate Kinga Surma in October of 2016.
A man identified by Liberal campaign co-chair Deb Matthews as Ford can be heard saying "It doesn’t cost ya anything, we’re just signing people up today. That’s it."
PC Party memberships cost $10 and must be paid by the individual who signs up.
Matthews says paying for someone else's membership could violate election laws against making secret donations and possibly put someone over the donation cap.
The man can also be heard saying, "You don’t have to fill that out. Just put your name, number, and just sign it…if you’re interested sir, we’ll do it for ya."
A spokesperson for Ford wouldn't comment except to say Ford himself will be available to reporters at 11 a.m.
