A St.Catharines man who pleaded guilty to killing his 7 year old stepson has been sentenced to life in prison.
The sentencing hearing was held today for 44 year old Justin Kuijer who admitted to killing Nathan Dumas, a grade two student at Harriet Tubman school in March of last year.
A judge has sentenced him to life in prison for second degree murder.
He will also receive time behind bars for the stabbing of a Royal Bank employee on Martindale Road.
He is charged with aggravated assault in that incident.
CHCH News reports that Kuijer is not eligible for parole for 16 years.
It was on Friday March 17th 2017, police were called to a Queenston Street apartment where Nathan's mother found him unconscious in bed with a bathrobe belt tied around his neck.
He died in hospital the next day.
Shortly after the initial 911 call, police were called to the Royal Bank on Martindale Road where Kuijer had stabbed a bank employee with a metal letter opener.
It sparked a five day nation wide manhunt that ended with a gunpoint arrest in Kenora.
