A St. Catharines artist has found herself in a copyright battle, after she noticed some of her artwork on clothing sold by Winner's, Marshall's and Nordstrom.
Jody Edwards, known for her watercolour paintings, walked into the Winner's in St. Catharines in October and was shocked to see a bunch of shirts with feathers on them; feathers she had painted in her work.
Edwards complained to TJX, the parent company of Winner's and Marshalls, as well as Nordstrom about the theft of her work.
The stores quickly removed the items right away but told her, her fight is with the supplier, Vanilla Sugar based out of Los Angeles.
The supplier is now denying it stole her artwork but says it is willing to reach a settlement over the dispute.
Edwards says she has no idea how many shirts were sold, and doesn't have the money for a long protracted legal battle, but from now on is watermarking all her artwork that appears online.
