A local church is the latest organization to become a certified living wage employer.
The Niagara Poverty Reduction Network has announced Bethany Community Church took the pledge to pay $18.12 an hour to their 20 full time staff, 5 part time employees, and 25 contractors.
Executive Pastor Andrew Epp says, "We believe that each and every person is created in the image of God. We also believe that each and every person should be paid a fair wage for a fair day's work. Anything else is simply unjust. Our value as a church is that people matter!"
The living wage reflects what workers need to be paid to live and participate in the community.
The latest calculation puts Niagara's living wage at $18.12 per hour. Ontario's minimum wage is $14.
