A local activist at the centre of a lawsuit by the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority says he will donate some of the money he raised for his defense fund.
A judge dismissed the defamation suit against Ed Smith in November .
This week, the judge ordered the authority to reimburse Smith for his legal fees.
Smith tells the St. Catharines Standard, he had raised $11,000 for his defense fund.
Two thousand of that he used on freedom of information requests related to his case.
The remainder will be donated to four local groups, three of them women's shelters, the fourth a new grassroots political group calling itself A Better Niagara.
