It's been just over a year since Niagara residents starting taking advantage of daily Go Train service.
Currently there is only one train out of Niagara, leaving Niagara Falls just after 5:15 a.m. in the morning, but the service does come years ahead of schedule.
Local politicians are hoping to see an expansion of service in the future.
When asked if recent provincial government cuts to transit projects concern him, including the Hamilton LRT, Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati says the thought has crossed his mind.
"I know that these types of things are important because it's going to be a lot less money than trying to expand the Queen Elizabeth Way, the loss of productivity of congestion on the highway and people being late for work. I think they understand the important of having that corridor cleared up."
Diodati says meetings with Metrolinx CEO Phil Verster have been positive.
"None of them start out very busy, full trains, he says 'every one starts out this way.' The fact that it's already profitable, the fact that the top person wants to see this expand - he understands this is an integral part of the Metrolink connections - it's going to move forward."
St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik called the anniversary 'a great time for us' as he stepped onto the platform yesterday to celebrate the milestone.
Today is the one year anniversary of daily @GOtransit coming to @St_Catharines!! TY to the provincial government, @Metrolinx and all those using the service! #ourhomestc #gotrain pic.twitter.com/9fWsXuLEvk
